Guide and FAQ

Measuring a gigabit plan

Fast e& fiber plans can deliver more than most devices can measure over Wi‑Fi. To see the real speed of your line, test from a computer connected to the router by cable, close other apps and downloads, and make sure no one else at home is streaming during the test.

Check your network cable

An old Cat5 cable or a router port limited to 100 Mbps will cap your result at around 95 Mbps whatever your plan. Look at the text printed on the cable: Cat5e or Cat6 supports gigabit speeds. If your cable result stops near 95 Mbps, the cable or port is the most likely cause.

Before you call 101

Test by cable three times at different times of day and keep a screenshot of each result. If the cable results are close to your plan but Wi‑Fi is slow, the fix is inside your home, such as moving the router or adding a mesh system.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

How long does a 110 GB game like GTA V take to download?

Downloading 110 GB by line speed
Download speed	Approximate time
10 Mbps	1 day
30 Mbps	8 hr 9 min
50 Mbps	4 hr 53 min
100 Mbps	2 hr 27 min
200 Mbps	1 hr 13 min
500 Mbps	29 min

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my e& UAE (Etisalat) data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

Why does my result stop at about 95 Mbps?

Something in the path only supports 100 Mbps, usually an old Cat5 cable or a 100 Mbps network port on your device. Use a Cat5e or Cat6 cable and a gigabit port.

Can I measure a 1 Gbps plan over Wi‑Fi?

Usually not. Most devices on Wi‑Fi reach a few hundred megabits at best. Test by cable from a computer with a gigabit port to measure the full plan.
