Guide and FAQ

Read your router's signal

If you use a Mobily 5G or 4G home router, its settings page shows signal values such as RSRP and SINR. As a rough guide, an RSRP closer to −80 dBm is strong and one below −105 dBm is weak, and a higher SINR means a cleaner signal. Move the router between rooms and watch these numbers: the spot with the best signal is usually the spot with the best speed.

5G or 4G?

When the 5G signal is weak, the router switches to 4G and your speed drops. Check the network indicator on the router or in its app during the test. If it keeps switching, a higher spot or a window facing the nearest tower often keeps it on 5G.

Before you call 1100

Note the signal values and test three times at different times of day, keeping a screenshot of each result. A weak signal in every spot at home is worth reporting, because it points to network coverage rather than your equipment.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

How long does a 110 GB game like GTA V take to download?

Downloading 110 GB by line speed
Download speed	Approximate time
10 Mbps	1 day
30 Mbps	8 hr 9 min
50 Mbps	4 hr 53 min
100 Mbps	2 hr 27 min
200 Mbps	1 hr 13 min
500 Mbps	29 min

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my Mobily data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

What is a good signal for a 5G home router?

As a rough guide, RSRP better than −90 dBm and SINR above 10 dB usually give good speeds. Values far below that mean the router needs a better spot.

Why does my Mobily router keep switching between 5G and 4G?

The 5G signal at that spot is on the edge of coverage. Moving the router higher or closer to a window usually keeps it on 5G.
