Guide and FAQ

Why your speed changes through the day

A Zain 5G home router shares the nearest tower with every phone and router around it. In the evening, when most people are online, each connection gets a smaller share, so speeds drop. Test once in the morning and once between 8 and 11 pm: a big gap points to a busy tower, while low results at every hour point to a weak signal at your spot.

Give the router a clear view

Concrete walls, metal shutters and tinted windows all weaken a 5G signal. Place the router high, near a window, and away from the TV and other electronics. Small moves, even half a meter, can change the result noticeably, so test after each move.

Before you call 959

Keep screenshots of your morning and evening results from a few days. Results that are low only at peak hours are worth reporting as network congestion in your area.

What your numbers mean

Download speed matters most for browsing, streaming and downloading games. Upload speed matters for video calls, sending photos and videos, and live streaming. Ping is the time a signal takes to reach the server and come back, and the lower it is, the better for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much your ping changes from moment to moment, and high jitter makes call audio break up.

How long does a 110 GB game like GTA V take to download?

Frequently asked questions

Does the speed test use my Zain KSA data?

Yes, but only a little. The test stops as soon as the reading is steady, so it usually uses less than 50 MB, and we show you the actual usage after every test. The optional extended test uses more.

Why is Zain 5G slower in the evening?

More people share the same tower at peak hours, so each connection gets less speed. Compare a morning test with an evening one to see how big the drop is.

Where should I put my 5G home router?

High up, near a window and away from thick walls and metal. Test after each move, because small changes in position can change the speed noticeably.
